Be a Tree Corps Volunteer!
04/26/2023 - 01/01/2024
Description
The Alliance for Cape Fear Trees and the NC Urban Forest Council will be offering a series of 5 or 6 trainings to create Tree Corps Volunteers with the Alliance and the City of Wilmington. This training series will begin in late summer/early fall, and will be led by Dr. Barbara Fair, Associate Professor in the Department of Horticultural Science, NC State University. This opportunity is grant funded with the goal of having Wilmington become a model for other cities and towns across the state. The curriculum is under development, but at the end of the training Tree Corps volunteers will be caring for young street trees planted on public property with assessments, pruning, watering, mulching, and educating homeowners. Use of City equipment will be included. Young trees suffer due to lack of staffing in the Urban Forest division, and Wilmington is not the only place with this problem.
